Vacant Sheboygan Shopko site to house two national retailers

SHEBOYGAN – Two retail stores will take over the empty Shopko building at 518 S. Taylor Drive.

Two weeks ago, the Redevelopment Authority approved a loan of $ 375,000 for Netstreit, a Texas-based real estate company.

The company will divide the building into space for two national retailers, which has yet to be disclosed, according to Chad Pelishek, the city’s director of planning and development.

“The developer is finalizing contracts and leases with two national tenants,” Pelishek said.

The loan was approved in the hope that Netstreit will create 15 full-time equivalent jobs as part of the city’s economic development plan, Pelishek said.

All 15 jobs must be created and documented within two years of March 15, 2022, and more than half of them must meet low to moderate income limits.

According to its website, Netstreit owns 267 properties in the United States, including 11 in Wisconsin and “tenants representing 56 different brands or concepts in 23 retail sectors.”

Earlier this year, Fond du Lac approved a deal with Netstreit to redevelop the town’s empty Shopko. They came up with the same plan to divide the Shopko into space for two retailers. For Fond du Lac, one of these spaces will be occupied by Hobby Lobby.

In March 2019, Shopko announced that it would close all of its stores by the summer of that year. Sheboygan’s location closed in May 2019 and has been vacant since.
